Gaming 4 Good

At this four-week-long STEM class, students with neurodevelopmental disabilities will learn to create video games in a sensory-friendly space. The class will build problem-solving abilities and level up teamwork skills. Led by an expert team from MU. Snacks provided. Students in grades 6-8. Gaming 4 Good is an innovative project designed to spark interest in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math) for middle school students with neurodevelopmental disabilities, such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. At this four-week-long class, students will use Nintendo Switch and game design tools to create and refine their own video games in a sensory-friendly space. They’ll collaborate with peers, mentors and experts to build problem-solving, data analysis and critical thinking skills — foundational skills for success in STEM fields. This is a unique opportunity for students to learn, create and be rewarded for their efforts! 

The course was created by an expert team from the University of Missouri School of Information Science & Learning Technologies — including educators, technologists, instructional designers and accessibility specialists — to ensure that it is inclusive, engaging and effective for neurodiverse learners.
