In honor of National Poetry Month, singer-songwriter Chris Vallillo presents a selection of poetry by Carl Sandburg paired with original songs and instrumentals plus several songs Sandburg himself collected as a folklorist. Sometimes described as “Illinois’ pre-eminent prairie-poet singer-songwriter," Vallillo’s work has long been compared to that of Sandburg. Like the great poet, Vallillo is also a folklorist who spent several years collecting and documenting the music of rural Illinois, and he incorporates these traditional materials into his original music to make the people and places of “unmetropolitan” America come to life. Learn more about Chris Vallillo on his website and more about Carl Sandburg here.
Adults and teens. Please register to get a Zoom link to this virtual concert. If you miss the live event, you can watch the recording through April 21.
