What role did early Missourians play in the Cherokee removal story? Was it a story of racism, indifference, hunger, violence and greed? Come find out at this special One Read presentation as we unlock the latest science and history to rediscover the Trail of Tears in Missouri. Dr. William Ambrose and Chris Dunn will present "Geospatially Rediscovering the Trail of Tears in Missouri."
You’ll learn a great deal of new information that geotechnical scientists, archeologists and volunteer researchers have only recently uncovered. Two-hundred-year-old contemporaneous government records along with state-of-the-art geospatial technology have given researchers new insights about the Trail of Tears journey. The updated story reveals the care and effort extended by many of the earliest Missouri settlers and farmers to aid the Cherokees on their forced trek across frontier Missouri.
