Have you ever lamented having to toss out a beloved article of clothing because it had a stain, a hole or a tear that seemed to make it unwearable? Every year, people in the U.S. throw out more than 34 billion pounds of used textiles. Divided across the population, that’s more than 100 pounds of textile waste per person each year (according to Boston University School of Public Health).
You can save a bit of that waste by learning to mend or re-use damaged or worn-out clothes. Our two-part workshop offers you the chance to rescue garments you’d like to keep in your wardrobe and even add panache by making the repair decorative. You'll learn basic techniques and creative approaches to mending and repair so you can get more wear from your clothing and keep it out of the landfill longer.
Please bring a damaged item of clothing that you'd like to mend. All other supplies will be provided.
Adults and teens. Please register.
In the follow-up session on Wednesday, March 20, you'll continue working on and getting assistance with mending your damaged item. Please register separately for part two.
