Join photographer Stephen Bybee for a retrospective look at the history of our downtown cityscape through 25 years of images. A selection of these photographs will be on display during the month of April at the Columbia Public Library.
Twenty-five years ago, Stephen Bybee began photographing downtown Columbia in earnest. For reasons both pragmatic and creative, nighttime offered him the best opportunity to wander our city’s streets in search of inspiration and vision. Over the years, Bybee's approach and motivation grew beyond the artistic and took on a documentary purpose, as some of the familiar buildings and houses were demolished and replaced with high rise developments. Through a selection of Bybee's black and white photographs, we'll take a retrospective look at the history of our downtown cityscape and its changing skyline and infrastructure. Come hear him discuss his work and what it captures about Columbia's history.
