“It is the task of eco-poetics and eco-justice to write about history, economics, politics, social justice and the environment all at once… Environmental crises and social crises are mutually and equally devastating.”
--Camille T. Dungy, from forward in "Ghost Fishing: An Eco-Justice Poetry Anthology."
This poetry jam offers the opportunity to use your creative voice to offer inspiration and empower others to act to mitigate the devastation of the climate crisis, offering homage to the Earth, which makes all life possible.
Many of us feel paralyzed by the enormity of the climate crisis and wonder how, as individuals, we can make an impact in mitigating the causes of it. The truth is that our singular actions do make a difference. It’s key to identify what actions are in your realm of control and start taking them. Then collectively we can build momentum to make bigger strides in protecting the mother we all have in common—planet Earth.
Bring an eco-justice themed poem to read at this open mic, either an original piece or one written by another poet. Or simply listen and enjoy!
Adults and teens.
