Join us for a viewing of "The U.S. and the Holocaust," a documentary by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein, followed by a panel discussion about the refugee issues during and after World War II, as well as how immigration and refugee issues have historically been fraught topics in American politics and society.

Our panelists:

  • Dr. Catherine Rymph, dean of the Honors College and professor of history at the University of Missouri. She specializes in recent U.S. history, especially policy history, and U.S. women’s political history. Her current research project involves child refugee policy in the 1930s.
  • Dr. Bradley Nichols, assistant professor of history at the University of Missouri. He is a specialist in the study of Nazi Germany, the Holocaust and the Second World War. His research interests and expertise also encompass the broader global phenomenon of mass violence, with an emphasis on the history of cultural genocide.
  • Garrett Rucinski, director of engagement at City of Refuge, an organization that helps refugees navigate a new life in Mid-Missouri by providing relational care, education and development.
  • Moderator Dr. Brad Prager, professor of German and film studies at the University of Missouri. His areas of research include film history, Holocaust studies, contemporary German cinema and the art and literature of German romanticism.
