Strawn will discuss her grandfather's autobiography "Off & Running," and her own book, "Kiddie & the Major," a fictionalized account of her grandparents meeting and marriage. Adults.
Celebrate Kentucky Derby week with local author Elaine Corum Strawn as she shares the life and career of her grandfather, sports writer Bill Corum, who coined the phrase the "Run for the Roses" in 1925 to describe the Derby. Born in Boonville, MO, Corum received his first degree in journalism from Mizzou before going off to fight in World War I. He was president of the Kentucky Derby for nearly a decade, until his death in 1958. Strawn will discuss her grandfather's life through the lens of his autobiography "Off & Running," as well as her own book "Kiddie & the Major," a fictoinalized account of her grandparents meeting and marriage in the 1920s.
Copies of "Kiddie & the Major" will be available for sale and signing after Strawn's talk.
Elaine Corum Strawn is a first grade teacher in Columbia Public Schools and is the founder of Off & Running Publications. She has written five books including the two nonfiction books, “Lessons Learned in a Primary Classroom” and “Going on a Bear Hunt.”
