Before 1922, when the first tax levy to support the Columbia Public Library passed, there were several early attempts to establish a public library in this community. Staff member and genealogist Tim Dollens will discuss the primary players who set the stage for the institution we have today. We will talk about a $10,000 donation in 1845 and a (failed) tax vote to support a Carnegie library building. Learn about roles played by the Tuesday Club, the City of Columbia, Columbia Public Schools and the University of Missouri in this endeavor.
